Photographs of Edinburgh, Scotland, circa 1875; four gold-toned albumen prints of views including the Head of the West Bow, Edinburgh Castle, and Edin burg from Calton Hill, photographed by Archibald Burns of Edinburgh, Scotland. A commercial photographer, Burns' photographs illustrated books aimed at the flourishing Victorian tourism market. In 1871, Burns was commissioned by the Edinburgh Improvement Trust to carry out a photographic survey of a slum area earmarked for demolition.
