Data of the USAF School of Aerospace medicine Cardiovascular Disease Follow-up Study of approximately 400 young men have been summarized. The mean levels for cholesterol and low density lipoprotein levels have followed an overall trend toward increasing values as the subject's age increased. Mean high density lipoprotein levels decreased to a minimum reached in 1960. These mean lipid levels for this population group have been compared with levels in other groups. Possible factors such as diet, exercise, and changes in hormonal patterns have been discussed in relation to the changes in lipid and lipoprotein levels.
