"During the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was very concerned about the organizing potential, influence, and strength of black power and black nationalist organizations. In an attempt to limit the power of these groups, the FBI implemented a surveillance program of so-called black nationalist hate groups. This COINTELPRO (counterintelligence program) was launched in August 1967 on direct orders from FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover. This collection consists of the COINTELPRO black nationalist hate groups files, as well as a separate series of materials from the FBI investigation of the Deacons for Defense and Justice."--vendor website.
