Photocopy of a manuscript written in the third person by Harvey Knapp and given to his daughter, Luella Belle (Knapp) Fehlandt, presumably as a Christmas present in 1897. The manuscript begins in New York in 1839 with the birth of "Little Harvey." It then discusses Harvey's move to Wisconsin in spring of 1850 with his mother, his subsequent return to New York after her untimely death, and his return to Dane County, Wis. in 1853. He recounts stories from his childhood and hardships he faced, such as falling into debt and failed business ventures, while portraying life in general in a small midwestern town. His family life is also remembered as is his work as a woodcutter, farmer, school teacher, and auctioneer.
