A three-part documentary examining the history and culture of the Menominee and Winnebago tribes in Wisconsin since the arrival of the French explorer Nicolet. Part one gives a brief history of fur trading and the expansion of trading posts, and a history of treaties, especially the 1837 Treaty and the subsequent eviction of Indians from Wisconsin. Part one also covers the history of the lumber industry in Wisconsin. Part two discusses tourism on reservations, the termination of reservations, and Freedom Day (May 1, 1961). Part three covers the Black River Falls Pow-wow, gambling, and the educational system on reservations.
