Record of notices received and sent by the county clerk regarding aid to nonresident poor, kept pursuant to Laws of Wisconsin 1904, chapter 319, and Wisconsin Statutes 1939, section 49.04. The first portion of the volume records notices received by the clerk of relief provided by local governments within Brown County to people with legal settlement outside the county or without legal residence, showing the name of relief recipient, the name of the local unit providing aid, legal residence of applicant, name of county notified, and date of notice. Penciled notations indicate cases in which the local unit notified refused to accept residency claims. (State law made the local unit in which legal settlement was maintained responsible for support of the poor.).

The volume's second portion records notices by local governments within the county of relief furnished by them to individuals with residence elsewhere in the county, as well as notices by local governments outside the county for aid furnished to residents of local units within the county. Information includes date of notice, name of local government providing aid, name of local government against which aid was charged, and date of forwarding notice to that local unit.
