Recordings of three Northland Historical Society events: interviews, Oct. 10, 1960, with Mrs. Isabel Ebert and William Kloes at a meeting of the society, relating to the Thunder Lake lumber camps, originally the Robbins Lumber Co., Rhinelander, Wis.; talk given at a meeting, Sept. 11, 1960, by Father Mahan, pastor at Merrill, relating to the Jesuits and their work in Wisconsin in the seventeenth century; and a meeting, Oct. 9, 1960, including anecdotes about Eugene Shepard, early lumber-cruiser, cartographer, and practical joker best known for creating a life-like model of the Hodag (a mythical beast). The tape also includes reading of an early draft of a biography of Shepard written by Isabel Ebert.
