Recording made at a meeting of the Northland Historical Society, November 12, 1961, of pioneer farmers and their wives from the Rhinelander, Wis. area discussing their experiences during the early twentieth century. The speakers are not formally introduced by name, but topics of discussion include land clearing and farming methods; dairy, sheep, grain, and potato farms; lumber camps; railroads; and general experiences of day-to-day life as pioneers in northern Wisconsin.

A Mrs. Meredith's lengthy comments provide a woman's perspective on early agriculture, lumbering, and pioneer life. Also discussed is the early history of the communities of Harshaw, Starks, and Pelican; and oil prospecting in northern Wisconsin, 1921-1928.
