Ten letters written to Almeda Hazen (later Gulig), a resident of Oshkosh, Wis., presumably by other members of the International Friendship League and by American acquaintances living abroad or serving with the armed forces. Most of the letters were written just prior to or after World War II and describe events in Europe and their effects on the writers' personal lives. One letter written in early 1941 details a horrific bombing raid on Sheffield, England, the writer's home, around Christmas, 1940. Another discusses the disappearance of family at the hands of the Russians and feelings engendered by being a displaced person. Three letters written in the 1970s from an American acquaintance living in England give a glimpse of the political and economic state of that country.
