An oral history of the gay community in Madison, Wis. conducted in 1996 by Brian J. Bigler as research for a two-semester course at Edgewood College called "The Construction of Homosexuality." Interviewees range in age from their twenties to their eighties and were chosen because of their long-time residence in Madison as well as on the basis of their experiences and activism on behalf of the gay community. Participants describe their experiences and discuss attitudes, politics, the impact of AIDS, local organizations and institutions, and historical events of importance to the community. In addition to the tape-recorded interviews, there is a folder of clippings and ephemeral material that augment several of the interviews and a smattering of anti-gay literature.
