Papers of Hiram D. Morse, a farmer in the Town of Waterford, Racine County, Wisconsin, and a one-term (1867) representative in the State Assembly. Included is a typewritten transcript of a diary, 1862-1866, containing brief entries describing farm work, the weather, and local social life; a biographical sketch by his granddaughter, Alice C. Morse; and five original letters (1844, 1865-1867) from family members and friends. The letters are largely of a personal nature, such as the March 28, 1865 letter from Morse's brother informing him of their mother's death. An 1867 letter from a constituent describes local sentiment about a school bill being considered by the legislature.
