Papers of social activist and academic sociologist Sidney Peck, documenting his involvement in the anti-Vietnam war movement; anti-nuclear, disarmament, and peace movements; and discussions with labor union shop stewards made in the course of research on working-class consciousness for his doctoral dissertation (1959) and subsequent book, The Rank and File Leader. Over half of the collection consists of FBI files obtained under the Freedom Of Information Act and materials relating to hearings and court cases involving Peck which grew out of FOIA. Correspondence, clippings, speeches, conference reports and resolutions, oral history interviews and other tape recordings, posters, and photographs constitute the remainder of the collection.

Included are papers concerning two international peace conferences involving Peck as director of the International Liaison Office (ILO) In Support of the United Nations Special Sessions on Disarmament II (SSD-II) in 1982, which coordinated parallel activities of international non-governmental organizations (NGOs); and as international coordinator of the International Peace Conference in Support of the United Nations Third Special Session on Disarmament (SSD-III) in 1988.

To a lesser extent, and with only scattered correspondence, the collection documents Peck's involvement as a principal organizer or participant in the Chicago demonstrations during the Democratic National Convention (1968), Inter-University Committee for Debate on Foreign Policy (also known as National Teach-In Committee) (1965-1968), March on the Pentagon (1967), Mayday (1971), National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam, National Mobilization for Survival (1977-1980), New Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam, the Nixon Counter-Inaugural (1973), Ohio Peace Action Council (1965-1968), Paris Peace Conference on Vietnam (1972), People's Coalition for Peace & Justice (1970-1973), and University Circle Teach-In Committee (Cleveland, 1965-1970).

Photographs include images of Peck with Dr. Benjamin Spock and of injuries Peck sustained at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, 1968. There is also an image of a group at the International Conference on Vietnam in Rome, 1973.
