Letter books contain letters to superiors and subordinates on technical aspects such as locations of lines, costs, legal problems, supplies, personnel, engineering problems, public relations, and, very occasionally, political matters. Also present are other letters, notebooks, voucher records, ledgers, bills, bridge elevations, sketch maps, and grading contracts, 1857-1894. Dodge worked on construction for the Milwaukee and Mississippi, Milwaukee and St. Paul, St. Paul and Chicago, Northern Pacific, St. Paul and Pacific, St. Paul and Duluth, Montana Central, and Hastings and Dakota railroads, and the Minnesota Railway Construction Company.
