Summary

  • Letters and papers of John J. Boe and Harald Nielsen, whose relationship is not clear but who both were Norwegian-Americans living in Wisconsin. Primarily letters in Norwegian both from Norway and from other Norwegians in the United States, the collection concerns family life in Norway and immigrant life in Wisconsin. Also present are papers from Boe's attendance at the Scandinavian Academy (Scandinavia, Wis.); a biographical sketch of Civil War soldier and Lutheran pastor Nils Endreson Boe who lived near Deerfield, Wisconsin; and information of individuals who served in the 15th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment.
  • The photographs are studio portraits of unidentified Norwegian American individuals and groups by various photographers in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota.
