Abstracts of licenses to trade with the Indians, granted at Montreal and Quebec primarily between 1768 and 1776; an index of the licenses; consolidated returns giving lists of licenses, 1777-1790; and miscellaneous papers concerning French and English fur traders operating in the Mississippi River Valley and the Great Lakes.

The records were assembled and acquired by the Minnesota Historical Society through the efforts of Dr. Wayne E. Stevens at the Canadian Archives. In paper form is information on Stevens and an 18-page report written to accompany the abstracts.
