Scrapbooks, 1946-1958, prepared annually by the Division of Highway Safety Promotion of the Motor Vehicle Department as part of Wisconsin's participation in the National Traffic Safety Contest (later the Annual Inventory of Traffic Safety Activities competition conducted by the National Safety Council), together with photographs about safety activities compiled for earlier, similar uses. The compilations were used by the council as the basis for making awards to states and localities on the basis of their accident and death records and the quality of their overall safety programs. The reports include investigations into traffic control, accidents, and arrests; information about education campaigns for schools and the general public; reports; tables; charts; photographs; film catalogs; newsletters; and drivers manuals. Wisconsin also participated in the National Pedestrian Protection Control of the American Automobile Association. The photographic prints and negatives (1936-1939) document community safety parades, driver clinics, school safety patrols, and other safety related activities.

Volume 1 of the scrapbooks for the years 1945 and 1946 were not received from the agency.
