[1] Board minutes (1928-1952) showing names of those present, consideration of cases and proposed action on them, and reports of expenditures. Arrangement is fragmented, with unbound papers and nine volumes representing overlapping time periods. [2] Case files (1930-1948) including family histories, printed school forms recording mental, physical and psychological examinations, newspaper clippings, correspondence of case workers with individual cases and with federal, state and local social welfare agencies, and the personal notes, summaries and recommendations of the board chairman. Case records show the investigations of the Board, in cooperation with the Juvenile Court and the State Board of Control, into conditions surrounding mentally defective, emotionally disturbed, delinquent, neglected, and illegitimate children; the services of the Board in investigating applications for, and dispensing of aid from the James Memorial and County funds; in arranging for foster homes, for the care of unwed mothers and for the institutionalization of the socially and mentally unfit.

Arranged by case numbers, #1-702, of which 56 cases are missing. Cases below #500 generally date from the 1930's, and those above from the 1940's. [3] Chairman's Subject File (1926-1951) consisting of unbound papers and some notebooks, the former including the chairman's notes for reports and papers, notes on Board cases; a pamphlet entitled, "A Little Story of Human and Economic Interest," by Chairman Ada James; records of illegitimate births and crippled children; lists of institutionalized cases and of applicants for labor, and relief roles. Seven bound volumes, listed on back of card, include notes on the activities of the Board and financial record.
