Briefly reviews the Ojibwa off-reservation spear fishing rights issue and the resulting report Casting light upon the waters. Reviews the work of the Joint Fishery Assessment Committee, formerly the Joint Assessment Steering Committee, in establishing standardized methods for conducting surveys of the walleye fishery in northern Wisconsin. Describes how cooperation among tribal agencies, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and federal agencies has developed better data on the walleye fishery and lakes in the ceded territory, how hatchery programs provide more fishing opportunities for all, and the cooperative efforts to monitor and stop invasive plant and animal species. Also shows how the annual partner outing encourages dialog among all of the agencies and promotes networking.
