"Harrisse (Bibl. amer. vet., no. 110) has called it (the Enchiridion) an extract from the Fourth decade. Stevens and other authorities define it as a substitute for the lost first letter of Cortes, and it supplements rather than overlaps, Martyr's other Narratives. This tract was reprinted in the Novis orbis (Basle, 1532), and was appended to the Antwerp edition (1536) of Brocard's Descriptio Terrae Sanctae. It is also in the Novis orbis of Rotterdam, 1596". -- Winsor, narr. and crit. hist. of America, v, 1, p. xxi.
