This is the film adaptation of Emily Bronte's only novel. It tells the story of the thwarted love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. It shows the impact of the abused waif, Heathcliff, on two Yorkshire families, the Earnshaws and Lintons, at the close of the 18th century. When Catherine decides to marry the wealthy but inferior Edgar Linton, her decision has implications for all the characters of Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff plans a savage retaliation upon both families, extending to the second generation.
