Urvashi is from a poor family, but is talented as a singer and actress. Her mother, Shanta, encourages her to be friendly to the older Keshav Dalvi, who she thinks can promote her daughter's career. Urvashi eventually marries Keshav but is unhappy and restricted in her marriage, so she has affairs with other men. She then meets the wealthy Vinayak Kale and decides to settle down with him, but is unaware that she has entered a household where she has no freedom and is doomed to remain until death.
