The waste water and sewage sludge from urban agglomerations can affect the quality of Europe's lakes, rivers, coastal waters, groundwaters and soils. As a result, the EU has adopted a series of directives and has also co-financed the building of urban waste water treatment plants. In this report the court analyzes whether EU co-financed treatment plants achieve an adequate level of performance in the treatment of waste water and whether the sludge produced by the plants is being used appropriately. The role of the Commission is also examined.--Publisher's description.
