" ... comprising an extraordinary series of county histories (chiefly on large paper) as well as a large number of books on local topography, archaeology & antiquities, a large series of privately printed books on family history and genealogy, a number of rare books and tracts on the history and topography of Ireland, important works on natural history, splendid books of prints ; the famous picture galleries ; architectural books ; English and foreign scenery ; portraits etc. (many with double sets of plates), drawings and engravings, including a series of Hogarth's prints in first and early states, large paper copies of valuable modern editions of old English writers (of many of which only a few copies were printed), library editions of standard workds, a perfect copy of the first folio Shakespeare, volume one of the famous Mazarine Bible, a few very rare books of the 16th and 17th centuries, valuable and special editions of the ancient classics, etc., etc. The whole generally in excellent condition, being finely bound by Bedford, Clarke, Lewis, Wright, Edwards of Halifax, De Rome, Kalthoeber, Bozerain etc. some with arms and autographs of former owners, to be sold by auction ... on Monday, April 21, 1884, and ten following days (Sunday excepted), at ten minutes past one o'clock precisely."--T.p.
