Originally drawn up by Prof. Guyot, and issued in 1850 (Smithsonian Institution publication 19): reprinted, with additions by the Secretary of the Smithsonian institution, Joseph Henry, in 1858. These two editions were not issued in the volumes of the Smithsonian miscellaneous collections, the 1860 reprint (Smithsonian Institution publication 148) being the first to appear in that series. The whole volume 1 of the Smithsonian miscellaneous collections was also simultaneously Smithsonian Institution publication 122.
