Original attributed to Hugues Randin, an officer of engineers stationed in Canada from 1672 until his death in 1681. Tentatively dated between 1674-1678, it was based on one of Louis Joliet's maps of North America (now lost). The Randin manuscript (also lost) was formerly held by the Service Hydrogaphique library (Paris).
