The transcription for flute and keyboard of selections from Suitte d'un goût étranger by Marin Marais / Erin E.K. Murphy, Doctor of Musical Arts: Flute Performance. ABSTRACT: The doctoral performance and research submitted by Erin E.K. Murphy, under the direction of Stephanie Jutt at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Musical Arts consists of the following: I. Written project: "The transcription for flute and keyboard of selections from Suitte d'un goût étranger by Marin Marais". This document consists of the transcription for flute and keyboard of 17 pieces from Marin Marais' Suitte d'un goût étranger. Historical information has been included on Marais, the viol, the baroque flute, and ornamentation. The adaptation for flute and realization of the figured bass have been detailed. Performance ideas for this work are suggested. A comprehensive bibliography lists recordings of this work and available editions of Marais' works for flute. A recording of this transcription by flutist Erin Murphy and pianist Kirstin Ihde is included. -- II.
