"2013 Wisconsin Act 1 ("the Act"), relating to the regulation of ferrous (i.e., iron) mining, creates an expedited process and modified permitting standards to facilitate permits for ferrous mining in the state. It generally does not change Wisconsin law governing the mining of non-ferrous minerals. The Governor signed the Act into law on March 11, 2013. Before engaging in ferrous mining, a mine operator may be required to obtain permits and approvals under various state and federal laws for environmental and natural resource impacts related to mining. This memorandum describes changes made by the Act to those related environmental and natural resource laws."--P. 1.
