Abstract: In his three July/August 2008 interviews with Betsy Draine, David Trubek discusses his work in legal and international studies from the 1950s to the late 2000s. Outlining influences on his personality and scholarship, he talks about growing up in Englewood, New Jersey, and his father's contribution to his academic and political interests. He then goes on to discuss attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an undergraduate, his military service and Yale Law School. The remainder of the interview concerns Trubek's work at UW (and a brief term at Harvard) in the areas of Critical Legal Studies, the Institute for Legal Studies, the International Institute, and the Law and Society Association. Additionally, he offers his reflections on his collaboration with his wife Louise Trubek, his concerns about other universities raiding UW faculty, the development of the Law School, international education and research, and his work in retirement. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program.
