In his March 2008 interview with Sandy Pfahler, Ronald Klein discusses his training in ophthalmology and research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from the 1960s to the present. Klein is originally from New York, received degrees from Brooklyn College, NYU School of Medicine, and UNC School of Public Health. In the interview, he chronicles joining UW-Madison in 1976 as a postdoctoral trainee and the faculty in 1978; his research in epidemiology, esp. diabetic retinopathy; and several studies he is conducting. He offers insights into the tension between research and administration; the work of epidemiology; and the balance between work and personal life. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program.
