In his two October, 2007 interviews with Robert Lange, Robert Cole discusses his early years learning the flute, service in the Coast Guard during World War II, his career with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and his teaching and performance at UW-Madison. He talks about influences on his maturity as a flutist, places and people he's encountered while touring, and several woodwind quintets in which he has participated. The interview also covers topics such as: the Curtis Institute of Music; the 1960s; the flute as a career; famous musicians; university politics; and the National Flute Association. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program.
