An 80 year old man makes his way to the nearest police station after his wife's funeral and insists that he be arrested for a crime he had committed 50 years ago, in 1948, the year Sri Lanka gained its independance from Great Britain. Those days he was a poor carpenter and while burying his young daughter's dead body found a rare gemstone. But this fortuitous event brought nothing but jealousy and gangster attacks. While fleeing the chasing bandits, he was forced to kill three bandits. The couple had vowed each other to keep this incident as a secret and since his wife is no more he wants to be relieved of his mental torment.
