Michaela and Steve spend a week at Nyaru Menteng, an orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) rehabilitation and rescue program run by the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation. They get a first-hand look at the destruction of huge parts of orangutan habitat for palm oil plantations and the impact on orangutans and participate in the rescue of orangutans from small patches of rain forest that cannot sustain them, and from residents of the area holding orangutan babies for the pet trade. The intensive rehabilitation at Nyaru Menteng starts with treating wounds and malnutrition, and providing the babies with the care and attention they would receive from their mothers. Orangutans are then released to a "practice forest" where they learn to live on their own, with a goal of release into the wild.
