500    $aEloísa Cartonera, founded in Buenos Aires in 2003 by a group of artists and writers, established the cartoneras as an alternative publishing house. This project was named after the recycled cardboard bought from cartoneros (waste-paper collectors), that was cut, shaped, and individually hand painted and designed to make every copy unique. Cartoneras are characterized by their socio-cultural engagement of their editors, who seek independence from traditional editorial standards with regards to both the type of literature published and the artisanal format of their editions. Eloísa Cartonera continues publish new work and, as of 2015, offers a catalog of over 100 titles.
