On December 26, 2004 a group of hippos was swept into the Indian Ocean near Indonesia during a tsunami, and while most found their way back to their river, one baby hippo got separated and washed ashore near Malindi. He was rescued and taken to Haller Park in Mombasa where he bonded with a 130-year-old male giant tortoise, and they became inseparable.
