"The Man at Work Collection at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) is the world's largest collection of art depicting the theme of work. It covers four centuries - from the 17th century to the present - and consists of over 550 pieces in bronze sculpture and oil paintings. The work portrayed by the (mostly European) artists includes not only the history of industry but of industries within the whole, such as iron and steel making. Documented in art is the evolution of organized work from manpower to horsepower to water, steam and electrical power. In an historical context, the collection offers images of metalworking, leather and textile production, construction, mining and stone quarrying, glass and ceramics, timber, farming and miscellaneous industries. The forty-year-old collection was donated to MSOE by Eckhart G. Grohmann, Milwaukee business man and MSOE Regent, in 2000." -- Container.
