The Library of Amateur Journalism had been administered by the Fossils, the history of amateur journalism organization. The collection consists of the journals collected by Edwin Hadley Smith which included bound volumes of journals from the 1850s to the 1940s, scrapbooks of ephemeral materials from AJ organizations, chapbooks, photographs, realia, and other materials. Other amateur journals and materials have been added to the original Edwin Hadley Smith collection throughout the life of the library. There are many boxes of mailing bundles still in their envelopes from all of the major amateur press associations, arranged by organization, year, and date. Although primarily an American collection, there are bound volumes of foreign journals, with good representation from the British Amateur Press Association. Supplementary to the Library of Amateur Journalism are the papers of Willametta (Turnepseed) Keffer and her husband, Martin Keffer. This includes journals, correspondence, chapbooks, ephemera, and other materials. The library continues to receive mailing bundles and newsletters of the Fossils, National Amateur Press Association, and American Amateur Press Association.
