This ornate frame building
housed the heterogeneous enti-
ties of Hoofers, Haresfoot,
Octopus, YWCA, and Union
Workshop under the official
title of the Student Employ-
ment Building. They found
jobs for students, too.
Framed with tree lined walks,
Bascom Hall, sans Lincoln but
with its massive dome, was
the early beauty spot of the
campus. The dome burned in
the fire of 1916 but the main
building and its ivy walls still
stand.
