Dear Dr. Leopold:
Thanks for sendinc me a reprint of the review of
The U!FED 3hOUS by irank C. Edminster. The press of
work has nrevented my readinr this book completely but
I have he d a chance to look it over and I feel, like
you do, that it should make a Food handbook for field
workers and conservation students during the years to
come.
The critics and reviewers have been exceedinaly
Pentle with me when discussing my tecent book. This
leads me to the conclusion that it is an excellent idea
to be honest with your readers and to avoid makin7
claims or didactic statements concerning the validity
of which there may be considerable room for doubt. I
tried to steer this course in setting7 up the manuscripts
both for 7TOOLDOCKC and RUJFFFED GROUSE as I felt then, as I
do now, that it is the only way to handle a discussion
of birds about which we evidently know all too little.
We did not send out any Christmas cards this year
so I am enclosinp, as a rather belated zreeting and a
possible item of interest, acopy of the current edition
o3 the CLYUNAH ThBThIDS. Re4rdless of what your feelins
may be in the matter of the Solunar Theory, At least I
would like to pass slons the wish that you will find
amrle onortunity to put it to the test on the streams
and lakes this summer.
IWith kindest re-ards,
Sincerely,
enc.'
