• Promotional leaflet published by the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company in 1943 to advertise Custerdale, a federal housing project that provided temporary homes for defense workers in Manitowoc, Wisconsin during World War II. The four-page leaflet consists of a single glossy 12" x 18" sheet folded to form four two-sided pages and a full-page inside spread that is illustrated with a 1941 aerial photograph of the original 400-unit development and a sketch of a 1943 expansion that had added another 250 units. The leaflet provides directions, rental information, testimonial quotations from current residents, and descriptions and interior and exterior photographs of the rental units. There is also information about a Custerdale Community Center then under construction. (This facility would be dedicated on July 25, 1943.) On the back page are six photographs of significant Manitowoc buildings including city hall, the public library, Lincoln High School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, the vocational school, and Manitowoc County Normal School.
