The Elsom Trophy, listing winners of the annual Turkey Race from 1920 to 1936. The Turkey Race was an annual event held on the day before Thanksgiving, to encourage long-distance running amongst students. The winner was awarded a live turkey, the second place finisher a live goose, the third place finisher a live chicken, and the fourth place finisher, an egg. The trophy reads "Elsom Trophy, Annual Turkey Race, Founded 1902 by Dr. J.C. Elsom." James C. Elsom, a professor of physical education, was the University's first Basketball Coach.
