Graffiti Saying "Kofi is Going to the Classroom"

  • The young boy in the picture may or may not go to school. Schools, in the Western model, were established in the early 1900s. In the past, fewer than half of the children of primary-school age attended school and, in 1975, 75% of all Ghanaians were illiterate. To encourage schooling, upon independence the government made education free from elementary through university levels.
