Summary
Satellite images from ATS-III on April 3-4, 1974 uniquely captured one of the largest and deadliest tornado outbreaks on record in the United States, highlighting the importance of satellite imagery to forecasting. Over the two days, there were 148 tornadoes across 13 states resulting in 330 deaths, 6000 injured and a damage estimate of $600 million.
