  A New Enemy for Insects
The outdoor man will be interested
in a novel device to be marketed under
the name of "Ware-It." It is especial-
ly designed for convenience in apply-
ing an anti-mosquito and insect prep-
aration. The device consists of a small
tube which is strapped on the outside
of the wrist much in the same manner
as a wrist-watch.
By pressing the tube gently the
preparation is expelled on to the back
of the hand and is rubbed with the oth-
er hand. The substance of the prepara-
tion is such that it does not leak out
unless pressed, and the preparation is
applied as easily as brushing an in-
sect from the back of the hand.
"Ware-It" tubes sell for only 15c or
a carton of 24 tubes, sufficient for a
season's requirements, for $3.50. They

  Lone Moose Pair Grows to
Herd of 200 in 15 Years
  Two venerable moose who sought
refuge 15 years ago near an abandoned
mine on Rock Creek, in Montana, seem
to have resolved to repopulate their
neighborhood.
When the original pair were first
noticed near the old mine in 1915, they
were the only pair known to exist on
the west fork of the river. But a
recent census of the moose population
there by Forest Ranger Stanley Lukens
showed more than 200 head, according
to a report to the American Game Pro-
tective association.
This increase of 10,000 per cent in
15 years was accomplished under the
protection of a year-round closed sea-
son in that state.

       "Star Gauge" Rifles
  "Star gauging means merely meas-
uring the finished barrel every inch
from muzzle to breech to see that it
comes up to certain standards used as
the plus and minus specifications for
accurate or properly made barrels at
the Springfield Armory. For instance,
the bore diameter specification may
call for .300" and the groove diameter
for .308".
"The star gauged barrel merely as-
sures the buyer that his rifle has come
within the specifications and should
be a very accurate one. These arms
are purchased through the Director of
Civilian Marksmanship in regular
manner, except that the star gauged
barrel is stipulated, and the D. C. M.
passes on the order, and the request
to the Springfield Armory. The rifle
is selected through star gauging, but
there is no mark placed upon it to dis-
tinguish it from other rifles. Other
Springfield rifles may be as good with-
out star gauging, but when a barrel
has been star gauged, the owner has
the assurance that it is at least equal
to the best turned out at the Armory.

'Now THEREY the Quad for ME"

  FISHERMEN, sportmen, small
J'boat users no longer say, "but
a Quad is too big for my kind
of service". From tank to skeg, Jun-
ior Quad is built for them. It's not
an inch nor an ounce nor a horse-
power too large for any capable,
  comfortable craft.
  And what performance it gives!
Not a tremor of vibration at any
  speed! Luxurious power that flows
like velvet! Easy starting - so gen-
uinely easy to start that an electric
  starter would be superfluous!
Junior Quad has all big Quad fea-
  tures, including the gearless inter-
nal rotary disc valve that means so
  much in performance, quietness and
  thrifty operation. It's enormously
  rugged. And its price-quality and
' performance considered - is as
  sharply competitive as you could
w-ish. Send for catalog! Elto Divi-
