wild Turke-q Trappin9'
SIXTY-FIVE wild turkeys trapped for transplanting during the
past two weeks is the record of J. Stokley Ligon and Bert
 Baca, of the dame department.
These turkeys were trapped on Hall's peak refuge, Schiele
Ranch, Mora County. The traps were built early in winter, feed
has been kept in them since. More than 250 turkeys were feeding
in and around the traps when trapping began. Mr. Ligon believes
that 100 can be removed without impairing the sto-ck.
About 50 of the turkeys caught have been planted in places in
New Mexico where there were no turkeys or very few. Fifteen
were taken to Wyoming to repay donations of sage hens.
SWild turkeys must be hauled in special padded crates with
i:openings only at the bottom. They will kill themselves in an
Sordinary crate.
SThe tabulation shows where plantings have been made. More
i:will follow.
