         Mr. Aldo Leopold
         905 University Ave.
         Madison, iisconsin

         My dear Leopold:

              You may be interested to know how we are getting along in hawk
and owl
         affairs.

              To put it briefly, we issued some forty thoaýsnJ. pieces
of lliterature;
         Franks has worked as a lobbyist three months in Columbus.

              Stuber issued a mean attach misrepresenting us to tie sportsmen;
alto-
         gether, we had qulte a noisy fight. The education of leaders in
the state
         has been tremendous and that is better than laws. Education is effective

         without law, but law is no use without education.
              A month ago we had it out with the sportsman and they are now
with us;

         our strongest s-pporter today is P. 7. Lawiece (449 Willis Avenue,
7oungs-
         town, Ohio) who is President of the League of Ohio tsrtsmen.

              Our bills are now approved by the Conniasioner and the Conservation

         Council, passed by the -enate without an opposing vote, gone into
the House
         and approved by thri Fish and Game Cosmittee of the House, and ready
for
         final vote when the Legislature meets again, Yay 15th (it is now
on recess).

              I am writing you about Lawrence, who is a big fellow every
way, and
         very much the leader of Ohio sportsmen. He wants to learn all the
scientific
         side, and modern ideas. That have you to offer or what can you send
him?

              May I ask also that you send me a complete list of your contributions,

         when and where published and how now available. I want not only
to check
         my files complete, but to know how they can be secured for others.
This
         squabble has resulted in a very good feeling toward us in the stae,
as they
         said of us in Oolumbus "'those fellows believe in what they
say 9nd have no
         axe to grind". The bird clubs, iarden clubs anl the like have
confidence
         in us, and now the other side too, as we are trying to deTmatrate
that it
         is possible to find a middle ground on which all reesonabý
e people can meet,
         in prlace of the perpetual fight and Jealousy between eetre'iAts
of' both
         sides.

                                                 Yours very truly,
