De-ar Aldo;

£> fig~ures on t'e bird production costs for 'Whitman County ,,were

taken from t'eir annual financial rjport. I sat in the meeting
when the figures were given out and esti'-ted the cost iper bird from
the item on their annual report charged against tha gane farm dividing
by the numbers of birds liberated.

I do know th.nat they batch the eggs on the small farm and then in turn
ta'e t fi feld boxes out in the nearby alfalfa fields and feed and
control vermin to the period when the birds are large en- &g to
wander off by themselves.

I 'To'<_A izdest that you keep in correspondence with MTrs Anne Maclay

Leffingell, c,/o Washington State Gollege, Pullman, as she is keeping
up a study of the Hungarian and expects to sp ecialize in the food
habits and also the )ossibly migraitory hab its of this bird.

I recently furnished her with the followinv information on the intro-
duction of the Hun~jarian in Oregon; Original shipment vas moade in
1913, the lot containing 1,500 when shi_).jed with a great many dead
when received. No count of dead taken. They were liberated on or
about March 25th.

The shiA)Pient vvas liberated in three districts; I. A. Booth ranch near

Toncilla, -JoDglas %ounty; Tennings Lodge, Cla~mas County; and
rendle ton, llmitilla County.
The Hungarian has done best in the latter district.
I expect to have more information along this oane line in the nenr

future and will forward it to you.
