INTRODUCTION TO TEXTILE StTupy. I, II; 2 or 3 cr. Includes micro-
scopic study of fibres, commercial weaves, and physical tests of fibres
and fabrics. Technique of hand and machine sewing, making of cot-
ton garments, with special reference to comparative expenditure and
wise choice of fabrics. Lecture and two laboratory periods. Lab.

CLOTHING EcONOMIcs. I; 2 cr. Lecture and required reading cov-
ering economic and sociological phases of the development of the
ready-to-wear clothing industry in the United States. Economic
study of distribution through department, chain, specialty, and mail-
order houses. The psychology of advertising methods used in sales-
manship. Study of family clothing budgets. Open to election by
juniors and seniors in any college. Miss Manning, Miss Abry.

PROBLEMS IN CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION. II; 3 cr. Designing and
modeling a dress, using renovated textile materials, adapting pat-
terns, constructing a tailored garment in wool, and designing and
making a gown in silk. Prerequisites: Home Economies 2, 5, 50.
Lab. fee $4.50. Miss Juaire.

CHILDREN’S CLOTHING. II; 2 cr. Studies in choice, selection, design,
hygiene, and economics of ready-to-wear versus homemade clothing
for children. Case studies of shop practices; budget standards in
the home. Prerequisites: Home Economics 5 and junior standing.
Lab. fee $2.25. Miss Tyrrell or Miss Manning.

TEXTILES. I, II; 3 cr. Advanced study of chemistry of fibres, bleach-
ing, scouring, dyeing, chemical examination of fabrics; test for adul-
teration of fabrics. A trip to Milwaukee to visit factories is part of
the required study. Prerequisites: Home Econ. 2 and 5, Agr. Chem. 3.
Lab. fee $6.00. Miss Abry.

HOUSEHOLD CRAFTS. I; 2 cr. Lectures and laboratory work on laces,

ADVANCED CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION. I; 2 cr. Study of different
materials as adapted to costume designing; technique design and
manufacture of tailored evening and afternoon costumes. Prerequi-
site: Home Economics 11. Required of textile majors. Open to
