HISTORY OF AMERICAN POLITICAL IDEAS. I, II; 3 cr. Prerequisite:
Full sophomore standing. An historical and analytical survey. The
major political ideas of each historical period are examined in rela-
tion to the social and economic environment and to the political con-
troversies of the time. 11 MWF. Mr. Jacobson.

HISTORY OF EUROPEAN POLITICAL THOUGHT. Yr; 3 cr. Prerequisite:
Graduate standing or consent of instructor. A study of the political
thought developed out of the Greek city state, the Roman Empire, the
medieval state, and the modern state. 2:30 MWF. Mr. Gaus.

INTRODUCTION TO GOVERNMENT AND Po.itics. I, II; 3 cr. Not open
to freshmen. The meaning of citizenship in our modern world, as
revealed by a survey study of public opinion, political parties and
propaganda, political leadership, the legislative process, administra-
tive areas and services, the judicial process, and civil liberty. Based
primarily upon American problems, but with some reference to for-
eign states and world politics. Lectures by members of the depart-
ment, discussions, laboratory problems. Lecture 9 F; two quizzes.

to freshmen. A survey of the principal problems and institutions of
state governments, with particular attention to elections and parties.
Designed primarily as training for effective citizenship. Mr. Harris.

MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT. I, II; 2 cr. Prerequisite: Full sophomore
standing. A study of the organization and politics of city govern-
ments, including the city as a political unit, home rule, the mayor, the
city council, commission and city manager forms of government, and
