126. RURAL STANDARDS OF LIVING. II; 2 cr. Development of standards
of living in rural communities. Consideration of all elements compos-
ing the standard of living: food, housing, transportation, education,
religion, art, and recreation, in relation to income, trading centers,
social institutions, and local groupings. Prerequisite: Junior stand-
ing. 3:30-5:30 Tu. Mr. Kirkpatrick.

225. SEMINARY IN RURAL SOCIAL ORGANIZATION. I; 2 cr. Emphasis upon
research methodology. Case studies of current projects in rural so-
cial research. Particular attention to group organization, population,
and institutional relations in rural society. Prerequisite: Sociology
25 or equivalent. 7:30-9:30 Tu. Mr. Kolb.

32. Sociau Statistics. I, II; 8 cr. Gathering and analysis of statistical
data in the field of sociology and demography. General description
of this field. Emphasis on the carrying through of consecutive
studies. Effort to develop the relation of statistics to science in gen-
eral and to the future of the social sciences in particular. Prerequi-
site: Major in sociology. Lab. fee $1.50. Lecture 1:30 F; 4 hours

NATURE OF THE COURSES. The elementary courses have been planned
to meet the needs of students who take up the language for the first time at
the University of Wisconsin, as well as of those who have begun the study
in high school, or who may transfer from other higher institutions. For
purposes of meeting the prerequisites of the courses announced, one unit
(year) of high-school work is assumed to be the equivalent of 4 credits, or
