FUNDAMENTALS OF SPEECH. I, II; 3cr. The lecture hour is designed
to give the student an understanding of the speech function. The
recitation hours are devoted to practice before the class, the analysis
of individual difficulties, and suggestions for improvement. Students
who expect to take further work in speech should elect this course in
their sophomore year if possible. Open to all students except fresh-
men. Lab. fee $1.00. Lect. 11 Th; recitation sections at 8 TT, 9 TT,

FUNDAMENTALS OF SPEECH. I, II; 3 cr. Continuation of Speech 1,
which is prerequisite. Lect. 11 Tu; recitation sections at 10 MW,

ARGUMENTATION AND DEBATE. I, II; 3 cr. A consideration of the
problems involved in gathering material and constructing the type of
composition which aims to persuade or to convince. The prepara-
tion and delivery of various types of persuasive speeches. Prerequi-
site: Speech 1, 7, or 8. I, 10 MWF; II,9 MWF. Mr. Ewbank.

ARGUMENTATION AND DEBATE. II; 8 er. Continuation of Speech 38,
which is prerequisite. 10 MWF. Mr. Ewbank.

VOICE TRAINING. I, II; 2 cr. Specific training and practice designed
to improve vocal conditions for all speech purposes. Exercises for flex-
ibility, range, relief from tension, articulation, and enunciation. Text
and outside readings. Prerequisite: Speech 1, which may be taken
concurrently. 3:30-5:30 M, and quiz. Miss Johnson.

PUBLIC SPEAKING. I, II; 2 cr. For those who wish to acquire some
skill in public address. Maximum of platform work. Special em-
phasis upon purpose, audience, occasion, and types of speeches. Open
to all students except freshmen. Six sections: 8 MW, 10 MW, 11
MW, 9 TT, 11 TT, 1:30 TT. Mr. Kopp and staff.

EXTEMPORE SPEAKING. I, II; 2 cr. Open only to freshmen electrical
engineers, of whom it is required. Three sections: 9 MW, 9 TT,
10 TT. Mr. Kopp.

ELEMENTS OF DRAMATIC EXPRESSION AND ACTING. I; 2 cr. Prerequi-
sites: Speech 1 and 6; the latter may be taken concurrently. 1:30
MW; 2:30 TT. Mr. Troutman.

ORAL INTERPRETATION OF LITERATURE. I, II; 2 cr. Prerequisite:
Speech 6. 11, 2:30 MW. Miss Johnson.

ELEMENTARY DRAMATIC PRODUCTION. II; 2 cr. Students in this
course are urged to take Speech 22. Prerequisite: Speech 16. 2:30

DRAMATIC READING AND PLATFORM ART. Yr; 2 cr. Prerequisite:
Speech 16 and 18; the former may be taken concurrently. 9, 10 TT.
